Beijing, China (January 12, 2015) – The Methanol Institute (MI), a global trade association for the methanol industry, announced further expansion of its long-term partnership with Kellen Company, a global association management firm. Kellen’s Brussels office is already providing services for the Institute’s presence in Europe. Since Fall 2014, Kellen Company has also assumed responsibility for MI’s China presence, managed from its office in Beijing.

Patrick Zhao has been designated to serve as the Institute’s China Chief Representative. Mr. Zhao has 12 years of government affairs and business development experience in the Chinese ethanol industry, and has worked in both the central and provincial governments.

Mr. Zhao will be responsible for liaising with MI’s China-based members and related government, academic, trade association, as well as strategic business partners. In addition to monitoring legislative and regulatory developments he will contribute to the growth of the methanol industry in areas such as fuel blending, downstream chemical development and new/emerging methanol technologies. Mr. Zhao will represent the Institute at local and international conferences in China, and will spearhead MI’s product stewardship activities in coordination with MI’s Chinese stakeholders.

“We are very pleased to offer our business support services to MI at this important moment in the development of the methanol industry in China,” said Alfons Westgeest, Group Vice-President of Kellen Company. “Since the opening of our Beijing office ten years ago, we have seen a growing interest by international associations in exploring strategic opportunities in China.
